PASTOR'S NOTE - SERVE

It is both my wish and prayer that you and every other person living in Don Pedro, La Grange, and Coulterville would come to know, believe in, and follow Jesus Christ. That of course is what God himself has been hoping for long before there was a you and me,  "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” John 3:16 (NASB);  “Here's a word you can take to heart and depend on: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners” 1 Timothy 1:15 (MSG); God wants to rescue us from the dominion of darkness and bring us into the kingdom of the Son he loves (Jesus Christ), in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” Colossians 1:13-14 (adapted from NIV).

I wish all of us would come together every week to worship God and Christ, to pray together, to laugh and cry together, to study, learn, and live out his word (the Bible) together, to encourage one another, to help each other, and together serve each other, our community, and our world.

Over the course of each year, we as church, remind ourselves of four core things that should be true of every follower of Jesus, every Christian:

  • CONNECT – every person needs to be connected to God through Jesus Christ, and every person connected to Jesus Christ needs to be connected to his body, the church.
  • GROW – every believer needs to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus through knowing, understanding, and living the Bible (God’s written word).
  • SERVE – every Christian is a servant to God and to all and thus needs to serve continually.
  • GO – the Christian life is being on a 24/7 life-long mission, carrying out God’s mission to redeem and save sinners and build the kingdom of Christ.

This month we are again reminding ourselves about our responsibility to SERVE. Over the course of my tenure (32+ years) here at the Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church we have done a lot serving, but I will spare you a list, it would feel a little like bragging anyway. But we don’t think we have arrived or have it all figured out. In fact too often we still drop the ball. This is why I am asking for your help. Please click on this link https://goo.gl/forms/bv2LbfBijs3Mw08m2 and complete the survey designed to help us to serve you and our community better. I would deeply appreciate it if you would take the time to do so.

Thanks so much. Love you, Pastor Hans

P.S. If you are already a member of the Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church please don’t take the survey yourself but encourage your neighbors and friends in the community to do so.

SAYING GOOD BYE TO DAVIDMARK & CINDY

DavidMark served our fellowship as the Youth Pastor for the last eight years. But he, Cindy, and the kids have decided to make the move to the BIG CITY, Modesto. It will be much closer to school for the kids and work for DavidMark. They have served us well and we are sad to see them go. The youth especially will miss them. We pray that God will continue to keep His hand upon them and guide them as they seek a new place of service and worship. Pray for God's leading as we search for a new Youth Pastor.

We are taking reservation for your portraits for the new directory. No membership required just be a regular attendeee at the cgurch and you qualify. There is no cost or obligation. HOPE SIGNS HAVE ARRIVED

The signs for our new theme "HOPE" are here and folks are anxious to put them up in their yards and get the bumper stickers on their cars. We are already getting a lot of great comments on the signs. We pray people in our community will come to know the "God of all hope".

AMAZING GRAYS VALENTINE'S POT LUCK

The Amazing Grays had a Celebrate Love pot luck dinner on Friday February 10th  Some great food was provided. We found out some secrets about how well some of us kissed on our first date. A dateing came took place which revealed some awkward anwers. It also demonstrated how much we have forgotten. But it was a lot of fun for everyone who came.

AFFIRMATION SUNDAY

Last Sunday, January 29th, was Affirmation Sunday. Each year we gather to affirm and demonstrate our committment to the Lord, but more specifically to this local fellowship of believers.  We are looking forward to a great year as we committ  to work together, love one another,  listen and obey as God speaks to us.It was an especially uplifting day.

NEW MODULAR DEDICATION - JANUARY 15TH

It was a great day. A brief slide show was presented summarizing the contruction project from bare ground to the completion of our two new modulars which are now ready for use. Tony, who led the way on the project thanked all those who help make this a reality. The entire congregation then walked through the new buildings and in each room groups prayed that God would use these new building the reach the lost, and build upbelievers.

CHURCH BOARD MEETING - JANUARY 9TH

Our newly elected Church Board held it's first meeting on January 9th. They received brief reports from the various Ministry Team Leaders, handled a few items of business and elected Diana Baker as the Vice Chair. Please be in prayer for the Church Board as they seek God's will in all matters concerning our church.

CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKET AND TOY DISTRIBUTION

On Saturday December 17th the Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church and the Sonora Lions Club teamed up and gave away food baskets and toys to families in our area. Over 140 families were served which represented over 400 individuals.Though the start time was set for 9:00 A.M. people started arriving as early as 6:30 A.M. David Redd and his team of volunteers had worked for months to pull this off and it was a great success. There were many smiling faces. A drawing was held for bicycles and lots of other toys were given away. Thanks to the Sonora Lions Club, the 4-H volunteers, and Mariposa County SCOP team for their assistance and support. Here are a few photos.

ANOTHER BENEFIT OF VBS

The Water Project – the missions focus for this year’s VBS donations, continues to update us on the project progress.  https://thewaterproject.org/community/projects/kenya/sand-dam-project-4473.  Our link will never change, our church is listed as donors, and we can follow the project to completion.

IS THE INVESTEMENT WORTH IT?

With the cost of our youth and Kid's Camp being what they are we sometimes wonder. But check out the big pictures results and answer for yourselves.

From our own group there were 6 kids who made decisions for Christ.  Who can put a price tag on that? Praise God!

CHECK OUT THE SLIDE SHOW OF VBS ON THE CHILDREN'S PAGE AND SELECT THIS YEARS VBS PHOTOS.

VBS - ANOTHER GREAT SUCCESS

The dust has now settled and we have had a chance to reflect back on that great week. Every day the kids were excited as they explored the truth of how special they are to God. We want to thank Joy Miller and the entire VBS staff for all their hard work as they ministered to these kids. The VBS project has been a blessing to the Lake Don Pedro community for years. So, if you know of anyone who helped out give them a big hug and "God Bless You" for what they have done.
